Approximately 50 automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postal boxes were marked, sometimes with swastikas, they reported in a release.
Officers say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a man noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued liquid.
The substance had been placed in the shape of a swastika, they added.
Police then discovered many other marked cars and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public display of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement state initial examinations suggest the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; officials are not yet cognizant of any harm in connection with the occurrence," they stated.
Local authorities stated they were working "to unravel the mystery" and have requested to the residents for tips.
An important official commented the attack made him stunned and required to be resolved quickly.
"This incident affects the core of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he stated on a platform, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a assailant targeting people of migrant background in 2020.
