The Film 'Together' Is Now Streaming, and It Could Strengthen or Shatter Your Partnership.

We present a dare for those in enduring partnerships who are fans of scary movies: Settle in with your significant other and stream Together. This 2025 indie hit has now made its launch on a streaming platform on Hulu. At first glance, it could look like standard physical horror, but inside Together resides a deep examination about how we choose to love one another.

An Introductory Film Investigating The Nuances of Love

Together marks the debut feature-length film for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It stars Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Tim and Millie, a pair who are not married that have been together for over ten years. United in marriage in real life in 2017, Franco and Brie infuse a unique chemistry to their portrayals, masterfully depicting both the strengths and weaknesses of a long-term relationship.

The narrative starts when Tim and Millie transition from the metropolis to the country for professional reasons. A commonly used narrative setup, of course, but that’s primarily where the conventions conclude. Together evolves into as much a examination of mental states of the partnership as it is a movie featuring biological frights.

A Paranormal Spark

While hiking near their rural residence, a storm hits, and the protagonists fall into an subterranean cavern. After being trapped overnight there and managing to escape, a supernatural entity takes hold of the pair. This force compels a otherworldly bond between them that goes exceeding simple connection.

The complete narrative is a methodically building of scares, interspersing bits of dreamlike terrors, gross (but tastefully done) physical transformations, and authentically humorous dialogue (sometimes during something grotesque). Shanks skillfully blends these components seamlessly and wraps them up in a slowly mounting sense of impending doom.

Nuanced Portrayals

A great deal of Together is solely Brie and Franco, and they masterfully render numerous complexities to the dynamic between Tim and Millie. Millie's sense of self and feeling of intimacy is suffering due to a lack of intimacy. Her underlying frustration of Tim for his reluctance to focus on anything other than his struggling artistic pursuits gradually emerges.

In contrast, Tim's character senses confinement and isolated by Millie, who’s the reason they’ve moved to the country and distant from his network of friends. He is terrified of the notion of completely losing his individual identity in Millie. This fear is intensified by the fact he lacks a driver's license and relies on Millie for mobility.

The film's most intelligent aspect is that he refrains from painting Tim or Millie the clear bad guy.

Tim and Millie face the kind of problems that are inherent in any relationship over a long period. Deep down, they have affection for each other. They share moments of joy, comfort one another, and are vulnerable at times. But below this facade, there’s an unavoidable undercurrent of doubt about their relationship.

Thematic Depth

While the paranormal elements in Together act as a metaphor for these anxieties of codependency and totally devoting oneself to another person, the metaphor does not come across as hamfisted or heavy-handed. Instead, these visceral horror elements present a perfect parallel to the character-driven drama. Both the supernatural and the personal work together symbiotically.

A Controversial Conclusion

Together’s conclusion, which remains unspoiled, has left audiences divided on the movie's final takeaway about codependent relationships. Reports indicate that unattached audience members have understood the narrative as a compelling reason for avoiding commitment. On the other hand, a few pairs experiencing tension found that the film ended up guiding them to resolve their issues.

Whether you’re single or coupled up, your own response could potentially serve as a telling indicator of how you view relationships. Will the finale plant anxiety and horror, or a positive outlook on love? Will you recognize your own traits in Tim or Millie and feel frustration, or simply glance toward your significant other and say, “I understand that choice”?

Whatever the case may be, Together is an test you can embark on at this very moment.

Together is available to watch on Hulu at present.
